CREATE WHAT'S UNIQUE TO YOU

As a designer, everything is unique to you. Literally everything. The pictures of the project aren't the only things that employers or clients look at. Portfolios are primarily the design process to create one. When developing a portfolio, you need to make sure the text used is minimalistic, legible, and simple to read without any grammar mistakes. When you aren't supposed to obtain many words, the tiniest mistake can cause grave repercussions. Once you pick a font and finish typing, size the text appropriately for emphasis where you require it. You want a clean and professional design. A pleasant background to engage an audience but not distract from the focus, your work.

Portfolios don't just contain pictures. You need to include many elements to engage readers. Your 8-12 projects should include...

  • Pictures from multiple angles (top, side, front, and if anything articulates a shot of it in different positions)
  • A brief summary of the project. Each project has a backstory that needs context about this inspiration behind it (only a couple sentence long)

  • General Dimensions (this is done to provide scale to the image)

  • Medians used (this helps the reader appreciate what your range of materials are)
